Remembering a Legend: The Passing of a Beloved Member of The Gap Band

Anthony Walker, also known as “Baby Gap,” was a renowned songwriter and choreographer. He ‌rose to fame as a member of the Gap Band, which was formed in⁢ 1967. ‍Walker joined the band in 1979 and remained a part of it for the‍ next 23 years. In recent times, he also performed with GapX, a group formed by other members of⁢ the Gap Band.

Sadly, Anthony’s brother, Dr. Eric Walker, has confirmed ​his passing. ⁤According to Eric, Anthony passed away after undergoing neck surgery. He was ​in ​a hospital in Ohio at the time of his death. ⁤However, Eric did not​ disclose the reason for the surgery‌ or the complications ‍that led to Anthony’s death. He was 60 years old.

The news ⁣of Anthony’s death was announced by GapX on their Instagram page. Along with a photo of “Baby Gap,” they wrote, “GapX The Band is deeply saddened by the‌ loss of our friend,⁤ brother, and bandmate Anthony “Baby Gap”​ Walker.⁣ He left us too soon, and we will never forget him!!!”

During their peak, the Gap Band made several appearances on popular TV‍ shows such⁣ as “Soul Train,” “Solid​ Gold,” and “Dick Clark’s American Bandstand.” In fact, ‌during their performance on ​”Bandstand,” Anthony even tried to teach Dick Clark how to do the moonwalk. This amusing and unforgettable moment can be seen in the video below.

In 1985, Anthony collaborated with fellow Gap member Charlie Wilson to release the album “Billy & Baby Gap.” ⁢One⁢ of ‍the singles from⁤ the album, “Rock the Nation,” reached number 3 on the charts.

Dancing‍ was a⁣ significant aspect of Anthony’s career. In the 1970s, he formed⁤ a breakdancing group ⁣called “Tidal Wave.” Later ⁣on, in the 1980s, he worked at John Travolta’s dance studio. He also served as a choreographer ‌for Disney.

Anthony passed ⁢away on​ March​ 4th. A celebration of his life will be held in his hometown of Chicago.
