Garrison Brown appeared on the TLC reality show “Sister Wives” starting in 2010. He is the son of Janelle and Kody Brown. On March 5, 2024, Janelle shared the tragic news of Garrison’s death.
On Instagram, Janelle shared two pictures of Garrison and wrote, “Kody and I are deeply saddened to announce the loss of our beautiful boy Robert Garrison Brown. He was a bright spot in the lives of all who knew him. His loss will leave such a big hole in our lives that it takes our breath away.”
She ended the post by requesting “privacy” and asking fans to “join us in honoring his memory.” Kody posted the same statement on his Instagram account as well.
PEOPLE received confirmation of Garrison’s death from Lieutenant Charles M. Hernandez II of the Flagstaff Police Department. He explained, “On 03/05/2024 Flagstaff Police officers responded to a report of a death inside a home.”
According to the police department, Garrison’s brother, Gabriel was the one who discovered that his brother was dead in what the police believe to be a suicide. Garrison was only 25 years old. The police do not suspect foul play at this time, but “Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division are investigating.”
Upon learning the news of Garrsion’s death, TLC shared a statement with PEOPLE. The statement reads, “We are devastated to hear of the tragic loss of Garrison Brown. We extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the Brown family at this difficult time.”
The reality show “Sister Wives” follows the Brown family’s polygamist lives. Besides Kody and Janelle, the show also featured Kody’s other wives, Meri, Christine and Robyn, as well as their multiple children. Currently, Robyn is the only wife who still has a relationship with Kody. Kody also has a strained relationship with some of his children.
Kody has had a difficult relationship with Garrison for years. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Kody shared that “there was no line of dialogue” between himself and his son.
At the time, Janelle also expressed concern about how her sons’ mental health was impacted by their relationship (or lack of relationship) with their father. She explained, “Gabriel feels everything very, very deeply. But he’s also the kid who doesn’t say anything.” Then she described Garrison as “angry or sadder, like, he’s not as happy-go-lucky as he used to be.”
The relationship didn’t mend over the years either. In 2023, Kody shared that he still wasn’t communicating with his sons. He explained, “I haven’t been in touch with Gabriel and Garrison for quite a while.” While not having a relationship with his sons made him “pretty sad,” Kody explained, “Right now, there’s not really an open door with Gabe and Garrison. They’re they’re not willing to engage me.”
