Sadly, Gauthier’s management company, TriStar Appearances/Event Horizon Talent, released a statement to TVLine announcing the heartbreaking news of his passing. The statement reads, “It is with heavy hearts that we confirm the passing of our dear friend and client, Chris Gauthier, on Friday morning, February 23, at the age of 48.”
The statement further adds, “As a beloved character actor based in Vancouver, Chris touched the hearts of many through his exceptional talent on both the small and big screens. His loss is deeply felt not only by his fans but also by those of us who had the privilege of knowing him personally. We kindly request privacy for his family during this difficult time as they mourn his passing.”
The cause of Gauthier’s death was not disclosed by his manager. However, it was revealed that he passed away suddenly and unexpectedly after a brief illness.
Upon hearing the tragic news, the Hallmark Channel paid tribute to Gauthier on Instagram, stating, “We are saddened by the passing of Chris Gauthier. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and fans.”
Gauthier portrayed the character of Smee in “Once Upon a Time,” with Colin O’Donoghue playing the role of Captain Hook. In a heartfelt Instagram post, O’Donoghue shared a photo of the two of them and wrote, “You will be deeply missed, my brother! You were the true captain!!”
According to PEOPLE, Gauthier is survived by his wife, Erin, and their two sons, Ben and Sebastian. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones and the entertainment industry as a whole.
